Legal documents & acceptance

When you create your account, you accept the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. When you create or manage a team, you also accept the DPA (Data Processing Agreement) on behalf of the team. See Creating your account and Creating your team.

From time to time Pliic updates the Terms, the Privacy Policy, or the DPA. When the change is material, we ask for a new acceptance:

  • Owners and admins see a blocking notice when they open the dashboard, with a summary of what changed, a link to the full text, and an Accept and continue button. Until you accept, you can only: close the team (in Team settings), leave the team, export your data, or delete your account — which options are available depends on your role and how many teams you’re in.
  • Regular members see only a discreet banner at the top of the dashboard, with an Accept and continue button. Nothing is blocked in the meantime.

How you find out about a change before it takes effect

Section titled “How you find out about a change before it takes effect”

A material change never comes as a surprise: from publication until the date it takes effect, Pliic notifies you through two channels.

  • Email. Who receives it depends on the document: Terms of Service and DPA go to owners and admins of every team; the Privacy Policy goes to everyone with dashboard access; the Subprocessors list goes to owners and admins. This is a mandatory notice — there’s no way to opt out, the same way you can’t opt out of a billing notice.
  • Dashboard banner. While the new version hasn’t taken effect yet, a banner stays visible at the top of every page for the same audience as the email, with a summary of what changed, the date it takes effect, and a link to read the full text — the public version history already shows the new version before it even takes effect.

A material change to the Terms or the Privacy Policy is published at least 30 days before the date it takes effect, as the Terms promise.

Every acceptance (at sign-up, when signing in with Google or GitHub, when creating a team, or on a re-acceptance) records: the document version accepted, the date and time, the IP address, the browser, the language, and the path used to accept.

That record is kept while your account exists, plus 5 years after closure, as proof of acceptance. See also Privacy & data retention.
